Our Specialties

  • If you are feeling disconnected in the present because of difficult experiences from the past, trauma therapy can bring the necessary healing to invite you to re-engage with your life. You are never required to share the details of your trauma but are invited to look at how your life is being presently impacted and begin with re-establishing a sense of safety in yourself and with others. We work together to develop new coping skills and create the life you’ve always wanted to live but has always seemed out of your grasp. We are passionate about helping survivors of trauma overcome the power that their past experiences have had. We do this work because it is ripe with hope and we see healing day after day.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma therapy developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro. EMDR involves recalling a stressful past event and reprogramming the memory into a positive, self-chosen belief while using bilateral stimulation to facilitate the process. At the time of a traumatic event, strong emotions interfere with our ability to process the experience and the memory becomes stuck in time. When we are triggered and we recall the traumatic event we may feel as though we are reliving the event. These memories cause a negative impact on our daily functioning and interfere with the way we see ourselves, the world, and how we relate to others. EMDR therapy can release these stuck memories allowing you to resolve them. Over time the disturbing memory and associated beliefs, feelings, and sensations become resolved and you are able to think about the event without reliving it. The memory will still be there but it will cause less distress.

During an EMDR therapy session, you focus on the traumatic memory and the associated negative emotions and beliefs while participating in a form of bilateral stimulation. Some forms of bilateral stimulations are: tracking your therapist’s moving finger with your eyes as it moves back and forth, alternating hand taps, or bilateral tactile sensation.

  • We live in anxious and frenetic times.  As a result many suffer with anxiety or depression that affects their ability to live rich, full and connected lives. At Cultivate Counseling  our hope is to  provide our clients with resources to develop healthy  and full lives while building up coping strategies to manage and overcome anxious or depressed thoughts and feelings.  Whether it is worries and concerns related to life issues, feelings of disconnection or loneliness, or anxiety related to PTSD. We  collaborate with our clients to increase a sense of safety, connectedness and reduced stress.

Stories are one of the primary reasons why I chose to enter this profession and, while I have only been a professional for part of my life, I have been listening to peoples stories for a long time. I believe stories is where our humanity rests and stories display the full range of our complexity and connection as humans. I feel honored and humbled to be a listener of people’s unique stories; to cultivate a space for someone to feel safe, to be vulnerable, and share whatever dimension of their story they are writing or editing. I seek to empower clients to see themselves as the experts and authors of their life whether their journey inward is beginning or continuing.

My orientation as a counselor is to serve all communities in need with authenticity, curiosity, and cultural humility. I have experience supporting individuals facing the hidden pandemics of our time: anxiety, trauma (intergenerational, cultural, racial, childhood, and other forms), depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and family system dynamics. I provide services in both English and Spanish languages to clients based on their preferred and primary preferences.

I have a Bachelors in Psychological Sciences, Bachelors in Criminology and Criminal Justice; and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Arizona University. In my life I value and integrate social justice and diversity equity advocacy, poetry, music, art, cooking, nature, and climbing.

I am currently in network with BCBS, United Healthcare and most Aetna plans.

Dorothy (Dorrie) Beckley, LPC, Intern Coordinator and Supervising Therapist

As humans, I believe one of our greatest needs is to be seen and heard by others with kindness and understanding. My intention as a practitioner is to provide a safe, calm, and grounded space in which you are heard and deeply respected. To that end, I practice counseling with focused sincerity and heartfelt joy.

As a practitioner, I think of myself as a generalist and enjoy working with a wide variety of people across the lifespan with different challenges and symptoms. I have specialized training in trauma recovery, and I have particular clinical interest in working with adults who are recovering from complex developmental trauma and building long term healing relationships with clients. I am hesitant to pathologize, and more often tend to view symptoms as natural adaptations and defenses to challenging or unsafe circumstances in one’s developmental environment. Together we can explore these dynamics with curiosity and kindness, and learn skills to meet these moments in new ways so that you experience a greater sense of choice and freedom in your life.

Person-centered counseling is the platform for my practice and it is the lens through which I work and offer interventions. Other modalities that I practice via formal training or self study are Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I typically incorporate some level of grounding skills, self regulation skills, and mindful curiosity with all clients I work with in early treatment. I am also a board approved clinical supervisor and I enjoy mentoring graduate level interns who are in the beginning steps of becoming a counselor.

I look forward to meeting you to see if we might be a good fit as you either begin, or continue, the journey of coming home to yourself.

I am a certified provider with Compassionate Bereavement Care

Dorrie Beckley, LPC, Intern Coordinator and Supervising Therapist

Hannah Sweeney, LCSW, Therapist

Your healing journey is as unique as your fingerprint. Cultivating this path takes openness, intention, and nurture - all key elements in the therapeutic process. While the depths of ourselves can be excruciating to explore, it is only with deep discovery that true awareness and relief blossom. This knowledge opens the path toward acceptance and change.

As a therapist, my focus is creating an authentic space where genuine expression thrives. This environment allows for a strong therapeutic bond, which I believe is the catalyst for major transformation. Laced within these elements, I follow a person-centered and strengths-based approach, with emphasis on mindfulness techniques, holistic care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT).

I am a Licensed Master’s Social Worker in the states of Arizona and Nevada. I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno. Throughout my career, I have journeyed with those experiencing anxiety, addiction, grief & loss, depression, and various types of trauma.

You are here because you are brave. It would be an honor to accompany you on your unique exploration.

I provide a safe, empathic, and non-judgmental environment for individuals and couples who are wanting to work through the core issues and experiences that lead to challenges such as depression, anxiety, grief, and relational difficulties. My goal is to be a warm and honest space for you to address any issues preventing you from living your best life.

I have a passion for working with people from all walks of life, especially those healing from dysfunctional families or relationships, childhood trauma, and life transitions. I enjoy working with the pregnancy and postpartum period, couples learning to transition to parenthood, and supporting healthy parenting.

I come from a person-centered and collaborative approach and utilize a range of evidence-based techniques to tailor treatment to each client to best address the complexities of an individual’s life experiences. I believe in the importance of the multiple elements of a person’s “culture” (including, but not limited to; religion, race, gender, ethnicity, family of origin structure, region, education level, ability level, belief systems, etc.) and will work to understand you as a whole person as part of a bigger system.

I received my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from NAU. I am a long time Flagstaff resident and love supporting people in our community. I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends, outside enjoying the beauty of Flagstaff, and exploring interests and hobbies.

Hannah Hackett, Supervised Intern

I love humans and our messy, beautiful journeys here on earth with all our humanity. When we are provided spaces to be held, seen, and loved in our humanity, powerful things take place. As a counseling intern, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and empathetic support for individuals navigating their unique journeys. My belief in the power of genuine connection and being seen underscores my intention to create a safe and nurturing space where you can explore, reflect, be, and heal.

As a counseling generalist, I find joy in working with diverse individuals across their lifespans and addressing various challenges. In my work, I believe looking at societal factors, systems of power, and cultural narratives that influence our mental health is as important as the individual ones. Guided by person-centered, social-constructivist, and gestalt counseling, my practice integrates various modalities, including mindfulness and somatics. Rejecting a pathologizing approach, I view symptoms as natural adaptations to life's challenges. Together, we can delve into these dynamics with curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to grow.

I received my Bachelor's degrees in Adventure Education and Psychology at Prescott College, and I am completing my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling also at Prescott. Outside of counseling, I love doing yoga, spending time in nature, and building community. I look forward to starting our journey together.

“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you” -Friedrich Nietzsche

I’d be honored to fight with you; and perhaps, if we're brave enough, even make peace with the monsters that you may be free. This work is powerful, transformative, and hard. I love it. I’ve been a social worker for the past 15 years, typically drawn to those fighting big monsters like domestic violence, serious mental illness, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and trauma. I like to think of myself as a fairly eclectic therapist with the ability to tailor my approach to the client’s needs.

I received a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Utah Valley University (former LDS… I saw you wondering) and a Master’s in Social Work from Northern Arizona University (...Go Jacks).

I provide individual counseling in my office and over zoom when needed. New mothers are welcome to bring their infants.

Eric Dean, LAC, Therapist

You are inherently creative. Together we will explore this truth, uncovering how (1) your creativity driven by trauma restrains your authenticity (through anxiety, depression, people pleasing/codependency, perfectionism, disordered eating, etc.) and (2) ways your creative power can be consciously channeled to unleash your authentic self!

Our tools of exploration and co-creation will include parts work, EMDR, Authentic Relating, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness practices, embodiment work, walk-and-talk sessions, and multimedia activities (such as writing, drawing, expressive movement, etc.).

This is an invitation to move beyond trauma and beyond talk therapy into empowered, playful states of being. As a therapist and an artist, it would be my absolute joy to leverage my creative abilities to support you in reconnecting with who you truly are!

Eric Dean, LAC, Therapist, Men’s Group Leader

Rob Williams, LAC, Therapist

I believe that every person deserves a space where they are honestly seen, heard and valued for who they are. To that purpose, I help people live more meaningful and authentic lives, working through anxiety, addiction, depression, trauma and relationship issues.

If there is something in your life that you would like to change or are simply thinking about addressing - having someone that you can talk to beyond friends and family, someone who really listens and is there to support you unconditionally can be a huge help for almost any issue.

I welcome all races, ethnicities, genders, and am experienced in working with LGBTQ+ related individual and relationship issues.

Having worked in the mental health field for close to fifteen years I have come to believe that it is important to utilize a variety of approaches and that we find the approach that works best for you, whether that is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and EMDR.

I received my Bachelor's Degree from Guilford College and my Master's Degree from Northern Arizona University.
